Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
